It’s that time of year again! This means it’s the season for Halloween, Oktoberfest, and HACKTOBERFEST!
So what is Hacktoberfest?
Hacktoberfest is a yearly event that encourages participation in the open-source community. The best part is if you participate by contributing to open source projects, you receive a limited edition 2021 T-Shirt.

What projects are participating?
Find a project marked with the topic “hacktoberfest” or let us know if you have a contribution on another one of our projects, and we will add it to the event. Here is a current list of our participating repos:
What can I do?
If you aren’t sure where to start, take a look at some of our suggestions which are marked with “hacktoberfest” under the issues tab. These are updates that our team has been meaning to do, but it always seems to take a back seat when it comes to prioritizing development. Most of the suggestions are relatively simple to do but may take quite a few Pull Requests (PRs) to accomplish. In that case, feel free to split the work.
For example, the MITRE ATT&CK Framework had added subtechniques to their library, which did not exist when we originally added the mappings to all modules. This would be a relatively easy PR to accomplish since it requires only a few lines of code, but a bunch of research on different types of MITRE ATT&CK techniques. Now, this doesn’t need to be done all by one person. Select a few modules which you want to edit and submit a PR with your updates. Then let a friend do another piece, and we all get to get a sweet Hacktoberfest T-Shirt.
For those that have experience using Empire and Starkiller, but aren’t necessarily programmers, the Empire Docs repo that powers the GitBook documentation is a perfect place to make some contributions.
What if I need help?
We have an active community that loves to share information and provide feedback. Feel free to jump into our Discord and talk with other members of the infosec community.
